How to feature selected post with picture in Frontpage
« on: October 29, 2013, 12:13:16 PM »
I was thinking if simple portal could create a mod or add a featurue to the portal that allow forums to feature any post from the forum on home page ( note: not latest post) . . .  the owner of this website (www.gistmania .com) did it. i believe it would be a plus

That website isnt using Simple Portal, or the copyright has been removed.
Then I guess they are using something else, or an SMF mod?
In that case try over there:

SMF ... but not Simple Portal - they are two different things. There are no credits for Simple Portal there so they edited them out or are using  another portal system perhaps.

You can use the articles feature of SimplePortal to feature one or more topics of your choice on the home page.  If the message you want is not the first one in the topic, you can split the topic to place it the first of the new topic, then "add as article"

Yeah, it is SMF:
http://www.gistmania.com/talk/ssi_examples.php

Highly customized as I can see, so they must used some custom code/script for this as well.

No i was not, honestly. the guy (gistmania.com) has added some extra coding that allowed him to create a  special page for important forum topics, he then makes them appear on fronpage with specially attached featured images. . . I need you gurus in the house to help me with it.

SimplePortal already has something called "articles"
This can be used to make important forum topics appear on front page.
It does not have special coding for specially attached feature images, though.
But if the images are at the beginning of the article topic, then they can show up on the front page.

If you are interested in the special coding used by the author at gistmania.com, then he would be the best person to talk to about how to implement this at your site.
