additional Static pages and chat room require
« on: April 11, 2009, 02:33:15 AM »
Hi there,

I am glad to use SMFSP but my site is not limited to the smf forum.

I have to add some static pages like download, Learn Language, Books and so on

For this I have to be dependent on cms but the basic issue there is its integration with SMF community contents.
If this facility will be provided in SP then it would be a great support for us.

Second for chatting software most of us are using ajax and integrating it wth SMF MODULE but unfortunatly that destroyed my site thats why I am contiious to use it again.

It would be best tool If readymade Chat plugin/module with its integration to smf user list will be provided with SP.

Looking forward

Raji

You can currently do all these things with a mix of different SMF mods and custom coding. Although SimplePortal will eventually have the capability to add custom pages, and should include some sort of chat/shoutbox.

Could you plz tell me url of about about the SMF MOD that is good for additional static pages?

I was requesting about fully customized Chat room just like ajax and so on. Actually last month I have installed ajax chat and its smf integration mod but it destoryed my site badly. My hosting company complained about over loading on server and we had to cleanup our complete smf forum.
I dont want to face this trouble once again.

Here are several SMF mods that deal with adding static pages:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=331
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1146
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1347
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1477

I would recommend that last one, its the newest and probably fufills your needs the best.

Pages and Shoutboxes features were both added with 2.3 version.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

yes I have used its PAGES facility for my books library. Second request I made on this regard was to provide categories option in pages. Suppose I want to create Literary Books category to list out pages having books about literature. here is the example

Category A
   PAGE 1
   PAGE2
   PAGE 3

Category B
    Page1
    Page2
    Page3
    Page 4

and so on.

With regards

What you described sounds more like articles feature to me and yeah, we'll hopefully have a better articles module in the future.
