On the fence about Portal(s)
« on: June 11, 2009, 04:57:49 PM »
Hello all...I must say that I am on the fence about SP vs TP. Both have some very nice features. In fact, I am SO on the fence that I have one site using Simple Portal and my 2 other sites using Tiny Portal.

My question (support) question is this...I want to convert one of my other TP sites to Simple Portal. Right now it is SMF 1.19 using TP1.0, but I am considering ugrading to SMF 2.0 RC1-1 and then installing Simple Portal.

But just in case I decide I don't want to use SP on that site...is it as simple as just UNINSTALLING Simple Portal and then installing TP (and the reverse of that also)...

Thanks for any replies and thanks for a very SMOOTH portal interface.

I run SP2.2.2 on SMF 2.0RC1.1 on a heavily customised and themed live site and a default theme test site.

Uninstall of SP on the test site is as simple as clicking the button. On the live site with 20+ mods and manual code everywhere I generally have to manually edit three or four files on uninstall as the package manager can't find the original code placement to uninstall.

Never takes more than 10 minutes of site downtime. Can't help re TP but I can recommend SP. Upgrades and install are a doddle - if only I could say the same for my other mods...

SimplePortal should be as easy to uninstall as it is to install, if you have any issues then you can always ask them in this board, and we will try to respond as quickly as possible.

With the upgrade to SMF 2, remember that TP doesn't yet support SMF 2, so if you wanted to change portals then the only other option would be PortaMx (until TP upgrade).

The Simple Portal team prides itself on maintaining the Simplicity of our Portal, while adding as many useful features as possible. TP still has more features (I believe), but SP is certainly gaining them quickly. Its basically a matter of personal preference. :)

I can say I've used both TP and SP, I like them both. But I'm staying with SP due to the fact that they have made it easier to work with on the new SMF boards.

Members on my forum have said how easy it is to navigate SP.

That to me says a lot and of course there is loads of support too.
