Regarding all the Downtime
« on: July 18, 2009, 02:13:52 AM »
We are sure you are all wondering at the cause of the recent long downtime. But before we explain it, first let us extend our apologies to everyone this downtime affected, and our thanks to everyone who supported us during this week.

Now, on to the reasoning. You see, evil minions have been plotting to overthrow SP, not pleased that it supports both SMF 1.1.x and 2.x. They were nearly successful a few weeks ago, but this week, they stole the SP server.

Our brave Team member, Huw (H) and his kinky sidekick Jade were on the case immediately. Between suspension pages and evil support technicians, they battled ferociously to reclaim our server. But their bravery was not enough, and they were only able to manage to download a copy of SimplePortal's files and databases before being discovered. In haste, they destroyed the old server to avoid any further attacks, and ran for safety; barely escaping with their lives.

Those valiant Team members will be highly honored by the SimplePortal Team forever!

* Eliana Tamerin coughs.

Now that you have finished laughing, here is the real story: Between our codes and our old host, SimplePortal started using more resources than the server could manage. The account was suspended, and we had to find a VPS. After comparing our old host's rates to another host, we decided to try the new host, and placed an order. We hit a snag trying to restore a cpanel backup that didn't want to take well, and after that was conquered, we brought SP over and reanimated it.

Our talented Project Manager, Huw (H), went through and spotted the problem we had. It seems that the shoutbox does not agree with the servers somehow, and it has been disabled for now. Rest assured we shall bring it back online once it has been tested and working again.

We are still doing some things behind the scenes, setting up tools for our Team members and finishing the transfer of the rest of the files that were on our old host. But the majority has been completed, and you can now relax. There may be a few hours downtime in the future, but we shall try to make it as quick as possible.

Regards,
The SimplePortal Team
Ms. Eliana TamerinIt should be painfully obvious by now that I don't respond to support PMs. Don't send me PMs for support. They will be ignored and deleted, post on the Support Boards to get support.
