2.2.x and Custom Pages
« on: August 05, 2009, 12:31:39 PM »
This post assumes that you have the articles feature disabled. This tip will not work otherwise.

I've seen many requests recently asking if you can add custom pages to SimplePortal. Although we are adding this feature in with 2.3 version -which will be out very very soon- I thought I would post this to show the power of custom display options of SimplePortal.

Here is how you can create kind of custom page for SimplePortal:

  • Add a Bottom block.
  • Select BBC, HTML or PHP block type.
  • Name it as the page name.
  • Fill in the page content.
  • Check "Advanced Options" for "Display Options".
  • Set "Custom Display Options:" as this (change my_page part as you like): ~page|my_page
  • Set the style options if you like.
  • Add the block.

Now you have your custom page at http://yourforum.com/index.php?page=my_page

However, as I said this is just to show you what you can do with Custom Display Options; we will have a complete Custom Pages feature in SimplePortal 2.3 version.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Great Sinan!

I have both Custom Pages and SP 2.2.2 installed on my site so it is great to know that I dont need both.

But we use SP articles feature.  Can you tell me, without letting too much cat out of the bag, if SP 2.3's custom pages will also be compatible with the articles?

Built-in custom pages feature in 2.3 doesn't rely on anything, so it will work.
