Migrating from Mkportal
« on: September 02, 2009, 02:17:15 PM »
I have installed till now Mkportal + SMF.
Do you know if it's possible migrating news from mkportal, users and forum from smf and insert into simpleportal?

simple portal is just a portal for smf. there is no requirement to insert the users on to sp from smf... depending on the blocks you choose, the information is fetched from smf database.

I am not sure if mk portal based site can be converted can be done

There is no tool to convert MkPortal to SimplePortal, so you'll have to do it manually.

I'm not sure how MkPortal operates but SimplePortal completely integrates with SMF, just like a real part of it.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

I am not a big fan of SimplePortal, but I love to help :D
Okay, MKPortal is a portal that you install in a directory such as: http://somesite.com/
and the forum goes to: http://somesite.com/forum
So, You just need to do this:
1. Install Simple Portal
2. Change settings
3. Delete MKPortal (NOTE: If you set your forum to be viewed inside of MKPortal, the best option is to upgrade from 1.1.x to 2.0 as I cant find a back up for you.)
4. Make a Redirect / Or you may migrate your files over to the main directory and use the repair script found in the tools section of the SMF Download section.

Then your done! I used to use MKPortal untill it died too.
Your Welcome!

...old post I know, but lol, ... oddly enough because Simple Portal installs via packages, you can install simple portal along side of MK Portal. Simple portal will show up inside of MKp when you click the forum button. Just thought it kind of funny. :)
