Classic Winnebagos and Vintage RVs
« on: September 07, 2009, 12:45:49 AM »
Originally created on MSN groups in May of 2000, I set out on a long learning curve into something I knew absolutely nothing about... website building.

I got pretty darned good at making silk out of a sow's ear with MSN's extremely limited admin capabilities, thanks to an incredible site specifically designed for MSN groups webmasters:  Community Feedback.

In 2008, MSN dumped all the groups.  Great, now I had to go into the vast realm of unknown space... open source.

Well, I can only say that the first 8 months were no less than extremely painful.  But, with the incredible support from the members of SMF, SMF Hacks and SP, our new home is pretty close to being where I want it to be.

Classic Winnebagos and Vintage RVs is a community which revolves around the love of RV camping and classic automotive motorhomes.  Back when big block 8 cylinders ruled.

Technical knowledge sharing is only the foundation.   Our group is highly interactive and friendships have been forged across the world.   It's hard to imagine that RVs which are over 35 years old are still being enjoyed in places such as the UK, Sweden, and even Austrailia!  Our members are mostly age 40 and older, but there are quite a few younger members as well.  Out shoutbox is very active and Simple Portal allowed me to dump the complex and host disk space hogging CMS system I had before.

Hats off to you, Simple Portal Team!
