Use Enter Key For Shoutbox
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:51:45 PM »
I am a bit frustrated.  I posted on SMF to no avail.  I posted here and was told it's in the wrong area.  I moved it to the English support section (and being that I'm not a programmer and NOT familiar w/SMF that took a bit) and the site said I didn't have access.  I then relogin to try to find the post and it's gone.

So, one last time and if this is in the wrong spot or you can't help me please just pm me so I can hire someone to help me.

First, I like your program.  TheListener was kind enough to send me here and help me upgrade.  I have SMF 1.1.10, intifada theme, SP 2.3. www.ibrr.org/forum/

My question concerns the shoutbox.  When I use the 'enter' key to post the shout it disappears.  When I use the 'Shout' key it appears.  Is it possible to make the 'enter' key post the shout.

I have set my shouts to 15.  Do any of the old ones get stored in my server?  If so, can I make it so that they don't get stored.

Thank you for your time.

I am sorry for the experience that you have had so far, I saw your post in the annoucement topic for 2.3, there is good reason why we don't answer support requests there. ;)

My question concerns the shoutbox.  When I use the 'enter' key to post the shout it disappears.  When I use the 'Shout' key it appears.  Is it possible to make the 'enter' key post the shout.

It should submit when you press the 'enter' key, although that may depend on your theme and/or browser. Which browser are you using?

Is it possible that you could create a test account (with normal member privileges), so that we could have a look at the issue?

I have set my shouts to 15.  Do any of the old ones get stored in my server?  If so, can I make it so that they don't get stored.

The point of that setting is to limit the number of shouts stored in the database, thus saving on space. The database will store the latest 15 shouts for that shoutbox. The old ones will be deleted.

For the first one, there is a bug in shoutbox code. I have provided the fix in the topic posted in Bugs board. Can't link to topic ATM but it was reported by Tribulus I guess.

For the second; "shouts to display" (not sure about exact wording) will let you set the number of shouts to display for shoutbox block. The rest is saved and can be viewed by History button. "maximum shouts" (again not sure about the name) setting will do what Nath had explained above.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

I believe that Sinan is referring to the issue below, where there is a solution:
