Display Problems and maybe more
« on: September 27, 2009, 12:59:07 AM »
I just recently installed  SMF 2.0 RC1.2 then looked into Simple Portal and installed 2.3 I love the layout and look it gives the forum, along with the flexibility. Now I am by no stretch a professional programmer. So my hat is off to everyone involved in the development of Simple Portal. Alot of very high talent and dedication is easy to see. I first thought everything went fine during install. No errors, so i figured i just need to learn my way around to set things up the way I would like to see them. Then someone else checked out my site, which is VERY new (almost no traffic yet) And reported to me that things were not displaying properly. I use FireFox, they were using IE 6 or 7, not sure which. So I went to my site using IE 7 and sure enough. It displays X's where icons or small graphics should be. Not reading something right probly. Before submitting this post I have spent about 2 days reading this forum, usually you can find your problem already addressed and see the answer. The IE problems I've seen here were related to the 2.2 version. Sorry to be so long winded here, but wondering with just so so programing skills I hope I can get through these little hurdles. I really would like to keep Simple Portal. Here's my address if anyone has a minute to take a look. http://xpressyourday.com
Thank you in advance for any help at all.
Dave

I can't see the icons, even with Firefox. I think the problem is that you are using a custom theme.

Try copying your '/Theme/default/images/sp/' folder into the images folder of your custom theme/s at '/Themes/{theme_name}/images/'

Thank you for looking into this for me. Your skills are impressive to be able to take just one look and see whats wrong. I tried what you suggested and you were right, it was because I was using a custom theme. Unfortunately the file system would not allow me to place a new file directory "sp" in the themes/images sense there is already a file with that name. It is a little application/octet-stream with sp name. Hence the file system wanted to rename the sp file I wanted to upload. The program would not find the files if the directory had a different name. So I just reverted back to the default theme and just like you said, everything looks fine now. Thank you for your help. I know if I had better programing skills I could probly work this out. but.....
Thanks again and well done
Dave
