Disable auto-refresh in shoutbox after period of inactivity
« on: October 20, 2009, 01:26:05 AM »
I'm currently using the old "SMF Shoutbox" mod on my Archie site, and while its refresh feature isn't the best (it basically uses an iframe with document.location), I love how users can enable/disable auto-refresh at any time, and how this system works...

Shouting automatically enables automatic refresh if it's not already enabled.

After 15 minutes of inactivity, auto refresh is disabled until someone shouts or you click the link to enable it again.

I was looking at the code for the SP shoutbox, and it seems like the information we need is already there (the "updated" xml), so it's just a matter of figuring out how long it's been since things were updated and telling it to disable auto-refresh after a certain period of time. I want to enable the auto-refresh, but don't want it automatically refreshing all the time when there's nothing going on.

Sounds good to me, can be done with a 'Auto-Refresh Timeout' setting for each shoutbox. At least I think that's the best name for it. ;)

Added it to the ProjectTracker for SP 2.4: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?issue=299.0
