Blank pages after installation sp 2.3.1
« on: November 09, 2009, 07:00:16 PM »
Recently I updated from SMF 1.10 / SP 2.x to SMF 2.0 RC2

Now after installation of SP 2.3.1 (no errors at all during installation) it goes to my_forum/foros/index.php?action=admin;area=portalconfig url and all I see is a blank page.
The same if try to go to the index of my forums. A  blank page is always the result.

To recover it i must go to my previous backup of the forum files. In the database they  appear the new SP tables some of them with default contents which seems to be OK.

Any suggestion?

Any more descriptive errors in your server error log?

Can you please attach your index.php file?

There may have been an error with the copying of files to your forum, permissions could have caused this, although usually the package manager shows you an error message.

Here is a list of files within the SimplePortal package, and then the locations that they need to go. Try uploading them via FTP, if they aren't already there.
PortalStandalone.php -> main forum directory.
smf2/Sources -> files in this directory go into your 'Sources/' directory
smf2/Themes -> files in this directory go into your 'Themes/' directory
languages -> files in this directory go into your 'Themes/default/languages/' directory
sp -> this directory goes into your 'Themes/default/images/' directory
admin -> this directory goes into your 'Themes/default/images/' directory
portal.css -> 'Themes/default/css/' directory
portal_rtl.css -> Themes/default/css/' directory
portal.js -> Themes/default/scripts/' directory

That process is for SMF 2 RC2 only.

Okay, now It's working like a charm :)

Even by chmoding -R 777 all my forum directory, the Sources/, Themes/, admin/, sp/ and languages  directories where not filled with SP files.

After moving them manually everything was OK

Weird... there where no errors reported by SMF after installation. Also I have had installed perviously aevac mod without problems at all.

BTW I had to decompress the tar.gz file manually as it was not recognized by SMF but I see it is a common problem reported by several people in your forums.

Thanks for your help!.

Very useful topic, as I had the same issues. I can actually see all blocks again and that's great!

However, I am now unable to see any of the admin items for SP, they do not appear anywhere. Anyone have an idea how to fix this? Or at least a link that I could use to change settings?

Regards,

Eddy

After installing manually all the files, I got the admin menu for SP (see attachment)

Are you sure you uploaded all the files?

Try adding '?action=admin;area=portalconfig;' to the end of your base url (looks like 'www.forum.com/index.php'), that will take you to one of the SimplePortal admin areas.

Where there any errors given to you by the package manager when you installed/upgraded? I can see two reasons why you would not be able to see the admin area.
1) You need to upload the langauge strings ('language' directory).
2) There were errors with the install in the Admin.php file.

Adding the extra text didn't work but you did point me to Admin.php and i found that none of the admin portal lines were in there! Luckily I had a backup and after manually adding the lines it works now, so thanks a lot!

Shouldn't that be the whole directory?

Indeed it should, I have corrected my wording in that post.
