Blocks on different pages
« on: September 13, 2009, 01:11:03 AM »
Hello,

Is it possible to have the blocks show up on different pages. For example, I want the left side/right side blocks to show up on the Calender page, or a custom page I created with the latest version of SimplePortal.  Can anyone show me how I could do this?

Regards,
WingZero

Check the 'Advanced Options' checkbox under 'Display Options' when you edit a block. That function gives you full control over where you show that particular block.

I have the same issue as the OP. Good thing there's a solution.

However, I have been looking for this 'Advanced Options' checkbox under 'Display Options' when I edit a block.  However, I can't seem to find it.  Can you tell me the exact "clicks" I need to go through or probably a screenshot of where it is?

Please help.

Bangis

Admin -> SimplePortal -> Blocks -> Edit a block -> Check the "Advanced Option" checkbox (to the right under the 'Display Options' heading). More options will appear that you can use.

Make sure that you aren't running an ancient version of SimplePortal (as some of them don't have this feature), 2.3.1 is the latest.

Ok thanks for the quick response.  I am using the very latest version actually.

I walked through your suggestion many times and I can't seem to find it.  Look at the below screenshot:

Now maybe that is not what you are referring to so if I go through the block list, choose a block and click on the Modify icon in the Action section, here is what it looks like from my end:

Of course, maybe it is just me and my install.  Maybe I missed something but the site is working fine now so...  Can you suggest a fix?  I like SP very much than TP.  I think you've done a great job and I am going to donate soon after this is resolved.

Thank you.

Bangis

I can see what you mean, there should be another area labled "Display Options" between the "Add block" and "Style Options" areas.

Now that I think about it, you need to have the SimplePortal -> Configuration -> Block Settings -> Display Blocks in Forum option enabled for that area to show, otherwise blocks will only be shown on the portal. Normally it is enabled by default (and I never personally disable it) so it didn't come to mind first.

I can assure you it is enabled and checked.  You are right that it comes in default.  So I expect that to be shown really in other pages but it did not.  This is true on 2 forums I am working on.  Any workaround or ideas how to fix this?

Wait I think it solved the problem.  The display option in the Edit blocks page is showing.  Thanks!

Read my last post, that explains how to make sure that the Display Options are shown, which should fix this issue in most cases.
