Topic: Portal as full web server?

HI,
Have been using the portal in its most basic of ways up till now but have been given new project to build and was wondering if the portal could act as full web server, i did get it to show some page content by copying and pasting html from existing web server and got it working to an extent.. am a newbie, and old so be gentle

Also, Is it possible when user logs onto portal to mask the top part of the page with the logon details ie only from main onwards, hope i explain myself ok

SimplePortal is specifically designed as a mod for SMF, thus it requires SMF to be installed.

I am not sure what you mean by "the portal could act as full web server,". There is no way that SimplePortal can act as a full web server, as SimplePortal id written in PHP which needs to be run on a webserver. I think you mean, "Could SimplePortal be the only php script on the website?". The answer to that question is currently, no.

Sorry i didnt make myself clear..
Site will use SMF with the portal installed as a front end running on a web host, all im  loking to do is have everything running through the portal/smf

Well, it should work fine then. That is the purpose which SimplePortal is intended for.

If you want any custom areas/pages you can use the Custom Pages feature of SimplePortal.

What i ment was if url was www.mywebsite.com/index.php
It would show the portal but from main body of portal, obviously if the user clicks on forum tab or other tab then the full page would be displayed with the standard header..

That should be possible with some custom edits to your 'Themes/{themename}/index.template.php' file.

Are you using a custom theme or the default theme?

Am using the curve default and trying to colour it (not having much luck so far)
From what i can think is if i had additional web page as a custom i could point the www default to it, then when user clicks wherever it takes them to relevant area..
Apologies if not making myself clear, I'm a tech not a designer, i know my limits unless Somone wants to show me how to play with the main_block which is killing me in frustration
