Quick Block Edit Icon
« on: August 10, 2009, 07:59:34 PM »
This is a really simple feature that would be really nice to be include it as a core feature, I already do this for my website but it will be better to have it in SP itself and not have to add this in every new release.

The idea is to add a little icon with a link to edit the icon just like this screenshot:

This icon redirect me to:

This is really easy to do and really functionally too  8)

Regards

Hmmm i like the idea... I like to have fast admin tools, but it can sometimes look ugly if there are to much of them. Possible a idea for next version ;).
Again... I'm having time problems...Normal Monday to Friday I'm at office from 6:00-16:00 (On my local time ;P).

That's a great idea.  And the icon should only be visible to admins.

I've seen that with other portal modifications and I think it is just waste of space. It is not that an admin edits a block every now and then.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

The icon takes up no space that doesn't already exist, and it only shows for the admin.  I'm not familiar with other packages doing this with an icon on the title bar though, and in fact that wouldn't work if the block had the title bar disabled.  Other packages, such as WordPress blog software just put a small "Edit this post" at the base of each item when you're logged in as admin.  It's a nice feature because you can just browse around your web page and make immediate tweaks where you see a need.

I really don't understand what this is a waste of space, it's ridiculous speacially knowing that this is pretty easy to do and pretty functional too, I know of the admin don't edit the blocks every time, but this is really useful if you want to do some tests or just modify blocks quickly, I just don't get it but is ok you are the developer....

I actually saw it was a bit of a waste too at one point. Turns out they're very useful.

Perhaps make an SP "debug" mode, in which those icons would show up along with other debugging information. ;)

No way. I may be new to SMF but this is a great idea. Really good idea. If I ever want to edit custom blocks this would be pefect. Such a good idea and should be an option even if the creators of SP don't like it. There are many options that are not needed so you don't have to use them if you don't want to. I was using the horrid Spruz network and they had this option and it was about the only thing that worked well. I understand if SP don't want to add it, fair enough but could some make it in to a mod? I don't have the skills to do it yet. :(

Anyway, this SP is great. :)

Any chance to see this implemented on 2.4?
