Package Installed, Forum Looks the Same
« on: March 21, 2010, 03:30:54 AM »
Tried installing Simple Portal on a fresh installation of SMF 1.1.11 through the package manager.  It looks like Simple Portal is installed and applied, but the forum looks no different.  Are there any post-installation steps needed to activate the portal?

When I click on "Home" it just takes me to the forum main page.

you need to access sp in the admin section, and click on it to activate it and make it the front page, it works well with 1.11

I'm feelin' pretty silly right now, because I really don't see any SimplePortal hyperlinks anywhere in the administration center, or in the forum configuration.

When I click on packages on the left side of the admin center, I see at the bottom:

Mod Name, Version
1. SimplePortal, 2.3.1, <green diamond>, [Uninstall],
, [Delete]
click on admin on the tool bar, and scroll down the left hand side of your admin station, theres a box which says simple portal, click on configaration and then general settings, theres a box to tick to enable the home page.

So sorry, really not seeing that option.

Do I have to go to one of the hyperlinks on the left first?  (Screenshot included):

ok well id uninstall, and then delete the package, then upload it again, somthing didnt work that time by the look of things, you shouldnt have any problems loading up sp on 1.1.11

edit: i just thought, have you actually got out of admin, and then back in, you may have to do this before the link appears on the left panel.

Hi,

I've just experienced the same issue as benobi.

In my case the problem was an incorrect chmod of files. The Pakacke manager could read but not write all the files.

I came to this situation because I used an SSH connection to untar the SMF 2.0 installation files but accidentally chose the wrong user for the task. That's why the SMF's FTP connection could not apply the right chmod. Changed the owner of the files and chmod correctly and... bingo!

Hope it helps

Regards

Hi, I have the same problem than benobi.

First time a tried to installed SP through package manager but give me some errors, i fixed them changin' the chmod of files and creating a TEMP folder.

The second time the installation was aparently sucessfull but nothing is showing in my admin panel.

I am thinking a manual install but i don't know if some changes have been made in my install and i don't want to break it   :-[

The attach shows my actual SSI.php and index.php files

Thank you so much in advance, any help will be really apreciated.

P.S. sorry my bad english

No changes were made to those particular files.

Try:
- 'Uninstalling' the package, then delete it.
- Extract the contents of the SimplePortal package then upload them into a new folder (the name doesn't matter, so long as its not 'temp') within your Packages directory.
- Then make sure that you have the 'Packages', 'Packages/temp', 'Sources' and 'Themes' folders chmoded to 0777. You may want to chmod your forum's main index.php and SSI.php files as well.
- Then your package manager should show the SimplePortal package, hopefully with the option to install, which should work.
