Catastrophic Bug
« on: December 30, 2008, 01:54:30 PM »
Hi ,
does anybody know that Bug , Suddenly all Avators disappear, I had to deal with it once and upload the Avatar again. now it is happening for me and all users at one time , even the small images for the Gallery disappeared , although those small images for the Avatars are still there in the attachement folder but they dont display , the question is what to do ? I mean I can upload my Avatar again but what about the other users ? there must be a reason for this bug and a way to prevent it from happening again .. please tell me how to review the images again .

the question is still unanswered , how to prevent Avatars from disappearing I have found a thread here with the same problem : http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=196278.0

but at the end they didn't give an answer on How to prevent this problem from happening again or why it happened?

I can see that this happens only in the Maintenance Mode
without using the Maintenance Mode it is ok , I think it's a Bug but  not so Catastrophic one as I thought if it happens only during the Maintenance Mode.

to give you a clear idea of what I exactly did , I did not just activate the Maintenance Mode I have also Disabled all Permissions for the Blocks during that Mode and so the Avatars disappeared every time when I log off.

after finishing the Work I disabled the Maintenance Mode gave back all the Permissions again and the Problem was gone

Did they disappear only on portal? I don't think I could get how this is related to SimplePortal.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

they disappeare on both Portal and Forum , but as I said with the condition of enabling the Maintenance Mode and Disabling the permissions for the Blocks , the Avatars used to disappear every time when Logging off

If they disappear on forum too, I don't think it is related to SimplePortal; as SimplePortal does not make *any* changes related to avatars in source files.

I suggest checking if there is anything wrong with avatar urls and of course forum error log.

it doesn't matter as long as it happens only during the maintenance Mode , after all nobody suppose to see Whats going on in the Forum during the Maintenance Mode , so we can ignore this problem.
