Running SMF 1.1.11 and SimplePortal 2.3.1 very happy but you guys have just gone and made it better so in simple terms how do I install the update.

Downloaded the file

Do I unzip it or will it go on with package manager or do I simple FTP it up and overwrite the old files?

Upload the SimplePortal 2.3.2 package with the SMF package manager. The package manager should present you with the option to upgrade from SP 2.3.1 to SP 2.3.2 (as opposed to installing the 2.3.2 package).

no sam, you are not the only one.

I am new to this and I am still taking small baby steps and need my hand held all the way.

Same on here as the SMF forum they spell out the difficult stuff and miss out the simple step you need to implement it. Must loose loads of users by doing this. I looked at the update in the admin panel looked like the guys had made it easy (as they had) but where did it say the simple bit "download the file upload with package manager" ( or like I said is it just me being a bit thick) that's all that was missing.

By the way guy great job just an observation, must pass on my thought to the SMF team re the download page, same thing just a few words missing to make understandable to us simple folk

The good thing is both SMF and Simple SimplePortal have a great support team and a superb product. By the way love the smileys on here guys but to embarased to ask how I get them  :-[

you see #1. I have learned in my many years of existence on this planet, that I am never afraid to say I don't understand.

Just look at post from  the other day: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=4995.0
I GUESSED at saving the file to my desktop and dragged and dropped into the correct folder in Explorer view. Luckily I guessed right.

Do you want to talk about keeping it simple ? ? ? ?

It would be nice if they said, " Go to Downloads tab.
Select Simple Portal Packages and you will see SimplePortal 2.3.2 click that.
Left-click the download diskette icon and the Zip file will automatically be saved to your desktop.

and then provide further instructions from there. Because I don't know what to do from there. And I am SURE I am not the only one. That's why people are still using 1.1 or 2.0 or whatever.

I was thinking that they need to have monthly meeting groups where a different guest speaker could talk ( demo and Q & A) for 15 - 20 minutes and let members interact with each other after the "meeting." Personal one on one like.
Is there anyone near Northern Los Angeles that would be interested? I suspect so.

SAM - you said, "download the file upload with package manager."
What the heck does THAT mean? download upload in one sentence? (this where I get lost)
I think there are quite a few "baby steps" left out there. Is "download" the verb and "file upload" is the noun? (sorry, I love English. LOL)

Oh well ... what a journey.  8)

Do you want to talk about keeping it simple

Yes maybe we could do that on another part of this forum another day but staying with the upgrade for now.

FIRST MAKE SURE YOUR SMF IS UP TO DATE ie for you SMF 2.0 RC3

1. Download the Zip file think you have done that, don't unzip it
2. Go into your admin area
3. Select Main/Packages/Download Packages
4 Go to Upload Packages at the bottom of the page and click Browse
5. Find the Zip file on your computer
6. Click Upload, it will check the installation and tell you the files are OK don't continue if it reports error otherwise install it

Think that covers it for your version of SMF
A good area for a keep it simple thread may be General Discussion  8)
