Installing SP for the First Time
« on: January 11, 2011, 04:50:33 PM »
Hi

I am running SMF2 RC4 and a Modified Crip theme for RC3. This would be my first time installing SP or any Portal..

http://www.tinroofalleypoets.org/poetry_boards

I am in the Package Manager and out of the 4 Portals listed SP does not have a download link. Can I not Download/Install SP thru the SMF Package Manager?

Also ..My SP profile does not offer any options for an Avatar, and other normal forum profile options. How come?  8)

Thank you,

Rg

Because this site has been under pressure from spammers, SimplePortal.net now witholds those features from brand-new users.
The missing features will appear in your profile after a little while, if you continue to be a member in good standing.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

I am not sure I understand why you are having trouble downloading SimplePortal.
You can get it from simpleportal.net (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=downloads;area=cat1;b51e19a09=aaf968459592f2e7f755d5b1fc766822)
or you can get it from simplemachines.org (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1104)

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

Thanks AngelinaBelle

I agree, the answer to my SP inquiry might seem obvious ..if its not in the SMF Package Manager, then download and install manually. Yes, yes of course.

I do notice that some of the SP Team here are running SP 2.3.2 according to their profiles. So maybe there is a compatibility problem. So observing those 2 things, my inquiry?

Yea ..spammers are little buggers but would they even bother to upload their avatars and fill in personal info? Aren't they mostly robots?

I guess I just need to post more to become at least a Semi-Newbie to show off my ugly mug ..LOL..

Thanks again  8)

I'm not sure why SimplePortal would not show up in the package manager.
At my host, I can't get any packages that way -- I always have to download/upload.

I don't think there is any issue with moving from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3.
I've tested it on a test site, and it seems to work great.

Those of us who have a lot of customizations on our forums are too lazy to do it.
Maybe SMF will go gold soon, and so it would be easier to do that upgrade once instead of twice...
