Guest on portal
« on: January 15, 2011, 05:34:59 PM »
I am sorry if this is an irritating question, I have always been able to search/research my way out of roadblocks but this one has me stumped!

I have Simple Portal running as a standalone. The problem I am having is that I/everyone is a guest on the portal even if they are signed onto the main board, and even if you sign into the portal itself. You can go to the forum and be signed in, then when you click on home and go to the portal you are a guest. Any ideas?

Of course the answer hits me after I ask a question! Deleted cookies and everything works! Had everyone else do the same and all is good! I guess this is the problem with introducing a forum while still in developement! Errors get pointed out quickly this way though! Thanks anyway!

Well this seems to be a temporary fix. After a little while it goes back to doing it again. Then if you clear the cookies it will work for a while again. Any ideas? I have another forum with simple portal running as a front page and it doesn't have this issue.

Sounds like a cookie issue.

What are your SMF cookie settings?

Is the portal in a different domain or sub-domain from the forum?

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

Not sure what the cookie settings are or where to find out? Havent changed them from original install. The portal is the first and only mod to the original install so far. The portal is installed in the same directory as the forum. Forum url is norcalfrogs.com/forum. Portal is accessed at norcalfrogs.com. I copied the standalone.php file to the root directory and renamed it to index.php. Worked like a charm except for this issue. Perhaps I need more info on the cookie settings and where to find them?
