Login Redirects to Forum Page
« on: December 18, 2010, 11:35:33 AM »

When a user first connects to my site, they are directed to the login screen.  Upon login they should be sent to the SP Standalone page.  Instead, they are directed to the forum.

Disable Portal Redirection is checked at present.  When unchecked, the user sees a generic Windows error message on connecting to the site or after logging out.

I am using SMF 2.0 RC4 and SP 2.3.3 already - I originally installed 2.3.3 on November 6 2010.

I saw a similar post with a solution by AngelinaBelle here: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=6918.0
but it doesn't seem to quite fit, as I've had SP 2.3.3 almost since it was released - or was a change made in the interim?

That sounds odd. Which error message?

This is odd.  I disabled the portal redirect to get the exact error message, and it worked - kinda.  It will sometimes, when I logout from an active session,  allow me to see the log-in screen when first connecting.  And those times I can actually see the name/password fields, it will usually take me to the front page, as it should, but sometimes I get taken to a screen that states "Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again."  But surfing from there, without actually logging out, does work.

I just realized that if I go to mydomain.net directly, I always get the following:  "Windows Explorer cannot display this page."  Firefox, under the same conditions, yields only a blank page.

I tried to be clear in my descriptions, and hope you understand what I've tried to say.

Sorry to be so long in replying - bad things happen when too much electricity flies around!   :o

To which cookie settings do you refer?  If you mean the browser cookies, both Firefox 3.6.13 and Internet Explorer 8 (on 3 separate computers) are using their preset/generic cookie settings.  I even flushed the cache and cleared cookies to no avail.

As to the SMF/SP cookies
Enable local storage of cookies - unchecked
Use subdomain independent cookies - unchecked
Force cookies to be secure - greyed out
Use database driven sessions - unchecked
Allow browsers to go back to cached pages - unchecked

This does not sound like it should be a cookie problem -- you are in the same subdomain.

For this to work properly, you must have "Disable Portal Redirection" unchecked.

Please be more specific about the errors you get when you use this setting.
Do you get any errors in your SMF error log?
