Image resize in board news block
« on: February 26, 2011, 11:31:37 AM »
Hi,

This topic has been discussed before, and I've found 2 solutions, but none of which works for me. I guess it's because I run newer versions of SMF (1.1.13) and SP (2.3.3).
My problem is that the images posted in a forum, which is linked to a board news block, are getting resized to really small pictures. I know there is a don't resize option in general settings, but then the images overlap the blocks on the right.
What I wonder is if it's possible to make the images scale with the block, so when they resize, they are resized to like 90-100% of the block size, instead of pixels, which one solution was that I found. The problem with a fixed pixel resize is that people with smaller screens might have problems with the images overlapping other blocks.
If anyone have a solution to my problem, I will be very happy to hear it :) If you don't understand my question, don't be afraid to ask me to try to explain it again :)

Thanks in advance

Not really the solution I want, but if I get it to work, it might just have to go with that if there's no better solution. But thanks :)

The javascript that handles this has hardcoded the pictures to a size of 300px.
But you can find that code, and change that little bit, to create any style you like.

Watch out though -- you'll want to size it to a % of the width, rather than the height, since the height of a block depends on its contents. An endless loop.

Thanks,

That was one of the solutions that I found before, but it didn't want to work then, because I forgot to clear the browser's cache...
But now I just have to find a way to make the javascript scale the pictures with the block. Any clue on how to do that? :)

In portal.js, where the height and width are set explicitly, you can change this. Remove the height attribute, and set the width to a %.

This should work.  I think. If it doesn't seem to work, check the enclosing elements to make sure they have their width set, so they don't "shrink to fit".
