RSS feed with thumbnail image
« on: June 29, 2011, 08:35:32 AM »
Hey guys,

I need help with implementing an RSS feed so that it displays only the image from the provided RSS feed and when rolled over the image, the title is displayed just like showed in the screenshot below.

I have highslide 4 SMF installed so I'm assuming that will help with the mouse rollover. Please help me here guys.

Thanks a billion.

This is not something SimplePortal is set up to do. This would be an extensive custom coding project.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

Actually AngelinaBelle all I need is to grab and display the image coming from this feed | http://www.comicbookresources.com/feed.php?feed=previews
So basically it would be a RSS feed block except in this case it would be displaying the image from the feed rather than the text. Please help me out as it would mean the world to me.

While viewing a feed, use "view source" to see the XML for the feed.
The feed you want to use has no images.
So there is no way to extract them from the feed's XML document.

Okay I found the same feed on another site that provides images.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/Comiclist-DC?format=xml

AngelinaBelle I notice the lack of staff on this site but in all honesty this has been a feature I have been trying to implement on the site for a very long time and I would appreciate your help more than you would know.

Angelina after immense searching finally found one that display the images nicely and is validated by W3C. Hope I can get the help I need as I have been trying to work on this for the past couple of weeks doing immense research but nothing has come right so far for me :[

http://feeds.feedburner.com/NewComicBooks

Was just experimenting with PortaMx on my test forum a while ago and the RSS reader on it seems to work nicely : http://test.superheroalliance.net/smf/index.php (left bar)
so I guess if it's possible there, it's possible here right?

EDiT: Nevermind. I have different plans.

For Simple Portal through 2.3.3, there have sometimes been mysterious problems with the RSS feed block. It OUGHT to work with perfectly good feeds, but it does not.

So you might be happy to know that Sinan has rewritten the RSS feed block for Simple Portal 2.3.4.  It has tested well so far.

Please look for the announcement when 2.3.4 is finally released, and give it a try!
