Menu Block
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:39:13 AM »
Hi,
SMF RC3
Curve Theme
SP 2.3.2
CP 1.0.1

Pls see attached........
Is there a way of getting the pop-up (on mouseover within the menu block) to display infront of the main page?
I tried widening the block size but it looks dreadful on my site any wider than 200x200

Cheers
billy

does it need to be in a side block you could try putting it in a top or bottom block instead

Could you create a menu block to appear only on a "test" custom page (so you don't have to have your problems on your front page) and provide a link?

I recently saw an example something similar at http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=5356.msg32332#msg32332
But since the author used DreamWeaver to produce the menu, I don't know if the two problems have the same root cause.

Hi AngelinaBelle,
Thanks for your input-
I dont really know what you want me to create a new page for, besides I am all out of time.
The SMF and SP and Custom Portal are all unaltered - I havent played with anything.
Interesting that someone else has similar symptoms, will watch that thread also.
Cheers
Billy

Just so we can try a link to the problem. The extra page would only be necessary if you don't want the block to show on any of your "real" pages.

This only happens in Admin mode as standard users do not get the full menu. I am willing to put up with it for now - until someone comes up with a solution.

Right.  No "fly-outs" for guests.

So is your problem identical to what can see if we log in to http://demo.simpleportal.net and create a "Forum Menu" block (if necessary)?

I can see this problem there using IE8, unless I choose IE7 compatability mode.

Hi AB
Yes, exactly the same error with flyouts on the demo site as my live site.
You will also notice one cannot select the lower options on the flyout - it just disappears. The scroll bar also cannot be used to view the hidden flyout.
Even in compatability mode there are still menu options that disappear upon mouseover.

That this error happens with other sites is good to know....... in some respects.

Thanks and look forward to hearing a patch will be available sometime or an update to IE8/FF.

Cheers for your time
Billy

I'll ask the devs about the reason for this problem.

Because you haven't provided any link to your site, I'm going out on a limb with this guess.

I've just seen this problem caused by overflow: auto in a <div class="sp_block that contains (somewhere down the line) the menu with the flyouts.

If this is the case, you can fix the menu problem like this:

Themes/default/css/portal.css
Code: (find) [Select]
div.sp_block
{
 overflow: auto;
 padding: 0 0.5em;
}
Code: (replace) [Select]
div.sp_block
{
/* overflow: auto; */
 padding: 0 0.5em;
}

same code as what caused my scrollbar issue & getting rid of the auto fixed it so worth a try..
Also try the add-on Fire Bug in FF its a good tool for seeing in live view what changes you are making before you go ahead & edit the code.. (Firebug only lasts until a page refresh.)

Fire bug is what i use as I'm a novice & i know i wont break things !.

div.sp_block_container
{
   /* overflow: auto; */
}

but still cannot select the lower flyout list options

Nice work so far - just need to sort out the lower sub menu selectability prob
