Images in block headers
« on: May 03, 2010, 09:09:50 PM »
Hello all.

I'd like to add little icons to the headers of some blocks.

How can I  use the custom class and title to do this without disturbing the background of the header?

I'm using SMF 2RC3 with SP2.3.

Thanks in advance.

G.

To do this, I imagine you would need to create a custom CSS class (inspired, perhaps, by catbg) that uses a custom background image.  You could create your custom background image in an image-editing application by layering your icon on top of the catbg background piece. This would probably take a lot of fiddling to get right.

SimplePortal resists the dirty trick of putting an <img /> tag in the block name. SimplePortal block names are more conservative this way than SMF's Curve Site Slogan, which allows HTML.

Can we force an <img> tag in the block title by removing something?

That sounds like a security risk.  Is it?  I'm the only one with SP or admin access.

Two routes you might go:
1) function template_block in Portal.template.php (in your theme directory) -- to change how the block output is wrapped up. You could stick in a single custom icon here. Or you could have it take a block parameter (which would require you modifying the code for block parameters, either per-block, or overall).

2) I don't know if allowing HTML in block names has security implications. You can find this around htmlspecialcharacters in sportal_admin_block_edit in PortalAdminBlocks.php. Proceed at your own risk.

Enjoy!
