Blocks don't stay collapsed?
« on: November 10, 2010, 06:50:37 PM »
One of my members has mentioned to me that when she collapses the portal blocks, loading a new page opens it again.  On my end, everything stays collapsed until I manually uncollapse it.  Any ideas on what she might try to get it working properly?  She is using Firefox.

Which operating system/version of firefox is she using? I have no issues with the block collapse and firefox under linux.

You need to have cookies enabled for this to work, but you also need cookies to log into SMF, so I'm assuming that that is not the issue. The use of the NoScript addon for firefox could be the problem.

Link me to your site if you could, so I can test it in various browsers/conditions. I think it could be an issue with your theme (some themes add javascript variables that conflict with SimplePortal), or have bogus JavaScript/HTML that is not valid and the browser messes up.

I think the issue is actually with the cookie setting for your forum, as you are using the Standalone portal mode, SMF has a different cookie for the portal and the forum, so a block that a user collapses on the portal, will not be collapsed on the forum. (and visa-versa)

To solve this, you can enable SMF's "Use subdomain independent cookies" setting under Admin -> Configuration -> Server Settings -> Cookies and Sessions.

I just went to check that, and I actually already have the "Subdomain Independent Cookies" enabled.  Had to enable them when first setting this up to fix another issue.  XD

Try using the same URL for the portal as you use for the forum.
You have www.x.com vs x.com.
