Custom BBC Block Question
« on: March 31, 2011, 11:02:33 AM »
Hi there.  Thanks for this fantastic software.

I'm running smf 1.1.13 and sp 2.3.3

I've added a custom bbc block to the top of the forum (not the portal) and made it only viewable to guests.  It's a "Hello guest why don't you register" type message.

In that message, I've added hotlinks to the registration url of my board and the login url of my board (for current members).  I'm using the url tags [url] and everything looks great for me and for regular members/mods.  But for guests, the hotlinks aren't showing up.  For example, I've got an image of a stop sign that shows up for guests when using image tags [img] but when I wrap it in url tags [url], it disappears for guests only.  Strange.  I checked smf membergroup permissions but I didn't see any toggle for hotlinks.

Also, this is probably a stupid question but is there any way at all that I might be able to disable this custom bbc block for me, the admin?  I just don't want to see it.  I put it there to annoy guests, not me.  lol

If these things cannot be fixed, does anyone know of an alternative way to do this for guests only?

Thanks,
Dave

EDIT:  Well dangit I just went into the forum as a guest again and I noticed that guests can't see any links anywhere, except for those wrapped in image tags.  So it's an issue of enabling guests to see links I think.  But like I mentioned above, I didn't see anywhere in membergroup permissions for guests to toggle that on or off.  This stinks.

Okay, nevermind the links problem.  I went to the SMF support forum and...I'm an idiot.  It was a mod I had installed.

But I'd still like to know if there's a way to hide this block from administrators?  I really don't want to see it every time I log in.  lol

Glad you figured that one out.
SimplePortal 2.3.3 does not offer a way to hide blocks from administrators.
But making that change for a single block is a simple customization.
You just have to know the id of the block, and follow the instructions here:
