SB --> bad performance
« on: April 22, 2010, 07:05:45 PM »
hi all,
i wanted to know if its a known issue that the shoutbox is so inefficient
on my forum php is going crazy if more then 40 users use the shoutbox... and auto-refresh is set to 15 sec
so what i want to ask is,
is the SP realy so inefficient? or is it an issue with my server ;P

if it matters, i'm using nginx +  php-cgi

Are you using SP 2.3.1? There were some issues with performance for SP 2.3.1, which were (at least partially) resolved with SP 2.3.2.

ok i upgraded it but for some reasons the whole page refreshes instead of the shoutbox only o0
and the refresh button displays the history now

i made some small changes on how the single shouts are displayed and replaced the history function with my own history page

maybe someone could take a look at it....

thanks so far

the same problem for me... and when you delete some shout on the embed shoutbox, it takes you to the history shoutbox.

the url: http://localhost/portal/sa,shoutbox/shoutbox_id,1/delete,84/cefcadfb15e,654ba2ff6266a5e8006595bbd5f8c240/quot/%20onclick=
Maybe the problem is because of SimpleSEF.

I will investigate :P

Okey.... The problem when you delete a shoutbox, is made for SimpleSEF.
I will search the fix, and post it.

The problem that makes to reload the hole page is cause for a bad sintaxt. Fixded

AZUNAI: i checked your source. You have a problem with the sintaxt.

Change this:
new_body += '<li class="smalltext">' + time + (is_me == 0 ? '<strong>' + author + ':</strong> ' : '') + body + '<br />' + (delete_link != 0 ? ('<span class="shoutbox_delete">' + delete_link + '</span>') : '') </li>';

For this:
new_body += '<li class="smalltext">' + time + (is_me == 0 ? '<strong>' + author + ':</strong> ' : '') + body + (delete_link != 0 ? ('<span class="shoutbox_delete">' + delete_link + '</span>') : '') + '</li>';

And I also delete the '<br />'  so, the shoutbox will appear only in one line.

And how did you reach to the conclusion that shoutbox is the cause for that? Do you have any kind of data we could look into?
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

@[SiNaN]

well i tested everything (enable/disable) and so on, i even found the email bug (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=4126.0)

and it was striking that disabling the SB increased the performance in a rly huge way

when 20 users where online and the sb was enabled cpu went up to 50-70%
30 users --> 90-100%

so i disabled the shoutbox and hey cpu @ 30 users online was 10-15% also the page load time decreased from 20sec to 0.x sec

if you want more information pls explain me how i can serve them :)

btw thx allemand1 my prob is fixed :D

edit
hm for now it seems that the update fixed my performance issues

# Dot Guests: 23

# Dot Users: 50
Page created in 4.181 seconds with 17 queries.

nice seems like the "max users online without performance issues" limit is increased to 70 but still not acceptable :(

Did you update to 2.3.2 version? Are you using some kind of caching? If not, try using this mod:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2515

Caching should help a lot.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...
