Help with News Block.
« on: January 26, 2011, 12:18:23 PM »
hi, I'm currently configuring a SMF forum using the SimeplPortal. Now I have every set up, but I was wondering if there was a way to make the Forum News block show certain posts/announcements from different categories?

Right now I have a category called "News and Announcements" and all post get shown via the News Block.

Is there anyway I could maybe configure so I could display maybe a post from a General Discussion category by choice?

Thanks.

I think you want the Board News block

I already have that installed, but when I choose a board, it displays every post I make. What I'm looking for is a way to only show certain posts on the news block on the portal.

For example - I've created two categories; News and Announcements and General Discussion.

Boards News is set up to show post from the 'News and Announcements' board - which shows every thread that gets created.

Now, if it's possible I would like to be able to show threads (that I choose) on the news block from the 'General Discussion' section without showing them all.

I hope it's more clearer for you?

Thanks.

? You can select one, several, or all boards for boardnews. Then, it will show all threads from the selected boards.

If you want only selected threads, maybe you want to use articles.
Only articles which you choose with "Add as Article" will show up in articles block.

I don't want it to show all the threads, I want it to show the ones I want it to show.

I've looked at the articles section and it's too inconvenient.

If you want to show only certain threads, SimplePortal gives you two options:
1) Put the threads you want to show on a certain board, and only include that board in the Board News block
2) Use Articles to choose your threads.  The "Add As Article" button next to the article controls which topics you choose as articles.

If neither of these options suits you, you may be looking for another mod -- or a future version of SimplePortal.
