RSS Feeds
« on: August 05, 2010, 07:28:13 AM »
SMF 2.0RC3
SP 2.3.2

This might seem like a dumb question but i have no idea how RSS Feeds are added. I've looked through google and it just explains what an RSS Feed is but i have no idea how to add one so that data is automatically sent to another page. Could i get a bit of help on the subject?

What i'm hopefully after is a list of 20 items i have created that are currently on a page of their own send information to a portal block automatically of the top 3 items in the 20 item list.

Would be good if there were like RSS tags that i could use on my 20 item list and just put something like;

Code: [Select]
<rss1>Item</rss1>
Then add those tags to the place i wanted them which transferred the information over.

All feeds will be internal and heres the pages i'm hoping to use;

http://www.profifaleagues.net/index.php?page=premiership

The first 3 items on that list but only the team and points

to be put on the first block on the right - http://www.profifaleagues.net/

The feed link for that page is:

Code: [Select]
http://www.profifaleagues.net/index.php?PHPSESSID=c019ae2034b1dbde6d483cca0e37e0fa&type=rss;action=.xml
However, I do not think this formatting style (action=.xml) will work in the RSS block

You might want to try a specific mod

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=624
or
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1590

but i believe they will only post content to a pre-defined board

They do only post content to a pre define board. I've looked at both and have the "RSS Feeder" installed but it doesn't help me. I want to know how to make;

http://www.profifaleagues.net/index.php?page=premiership

Have its own RSS feeder so that the top 3 is sent to the list of my feeds. Therefore i will be able to retreive it in the RSS feed block. I have no idea how to make your own items feed to the feeder.

Does the feed block correctly pass additional parameters? e.g
Code: [Select]
...type=rss2&forumids=8  it seems to be ignoring the
Code: [Select]
&forumids=8 part.

I haven't yet added a feed block due the the fact i need a feed link and the feed links i have lead to the feeds i don't want in the block.

I'm a little confused.

With SMF, you can use a board as a feed:
index.php?action=.xml;type=rss;board=4.0

for example.
