Pretty URL problems
« on: November 16, 2010, 12:19:33 PM »
Hello,
No answers in French  to this post for several days, so I try in English  ;)

The Pretty URLs mod does not rewrite the forum URL on http://www.mydomain/index.php?action=forum

In itself this would not matter, but that pose me a problem of canonical URL.
In effect when I look at the source code displayed on the page that corresponds http://www.mydomain  wich is the portal home page, I don't have a meta tag canonical
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.mydomain/index.php" />

If I do the same on the index of forums: http://www.mydomain/index.php
I found the meta tag <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.mydomain/index.php" />

This  bored me because I want the index to be my home page and not the forums index.

Last strangeness, if I type in my browser the url http://www.mydomain/forum/
it is rewriten by Pretty URL, it works and sends me on the forums index and not on the homepage.

I suppose if the rewriting was done properly, I would get a canonical URL http://www.mydomain/forum/ on the forums index.

Is there someone there able to help me?

Thank you in advance sorry for my poor english.

I do not understand, because I do not understand Pretty URLs (PU)

What behavior would you wish to see?
* For (PU off) /index.php  --> portal --> (PU on ) should be what?
* For (PU off) /index.php?action=forum --> index --> (PU on) should be what?
* For (PU off) /  --> /index.php = portal --> (PU on) should be what?

------------
Are you talking about the URLs that appear in the menu buttons?  They are set up in Subs.php, for SMF 2.x.  I don't know if Pretty URLs rewrites the menubuttons.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

You are using a standalone portal?

I am first confused about the locations of things on your site.
You installed SMF at /forums/index.php?
So that, without Pretty URLs:

With SimplePortal in "Front Page" mode,
* The portal is at /forums/index.php
* The index is at /forums/index.php?action=forum

With SimplePortal in "Standalone" mode,
* You can put your standalone portal page at /index.php
* The index is at /forums/index.php?action=forum
* You see the portal again at /forums/index.php

----------------
As I understand it, Pretty URL has to catch the "pretty" stuff and turn it back into actions.

And you would need to add a piece to turn SimplePortal's URLS ('action=forum', 'page=', etc.) into pretty URLS and back into actions?  Or does Pretty URL give you tools to deal with new actions or action-like-things?

Solved by adding the Canonocal URL in PortalMain.php

The url rewriting for the boards index should be a bug from Pretty Url, I will ask the mod devs.

Thanks for help and sorry for my very bad english  :nervous-happy:
