Making bold letters on main page
« on: August 20, 2010, 10:04:46 AM »
I want to make first of all, bold and a bit more big the letters of the recent post block at the right of my forum when are unread and the "new" icon is next to a topic. When are not unread i want to be as it is at screenshoot:)

Only the name of topic bold! Not the name of user...... and the tittle of block ofcourse "απαντήσεις"

Also i would like to make a bit more big and bold the letters of menu "Home Forum Help"
Any advice?

using smf 2.0 rc3 and SimplePortal 2.3.2.

Yes this customization is simple.  It has two parts
1) customize SimplePortal php code for the sp_recent block
2) small addition to a CSS file.

First, find the function sp_recent in PortalBlocks.php

Second, find where the subject is written out. This appears twice, because of the option for $display == 'compact' and $display == 'full'
Code: [Select]
$item['subject'],
Third, spot how that new.gif gets shown for unread items:
Code: [Select]
$item['new'] ? '' : ' <a href="'
If $item['new'] is FALSE then the item is unread.

So you can use this, too.
Code: [Select]
'<span ', ($item['new'] ? '' : 'class="my_unread_title" ' ), '> $item['subject'], '</span>',

Now, in a CSS file, you can add an entry for .my_unread_title and make all the changes you want.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

thanks alot.
so if i understood i ll put this one

Code: [Select]
'<span ', ($item['new'] ? '' : 'class="my_unread_title" ' ), '> $item['subject'], '</span>',
in the potition of this one?

Code: [Select]
$item['new'] ? '' : ' <a href="'
I shouldn't  use something like b and /b for bold and a number for size of letters?
The "new" icon that appears on unread topics/posts is fine not need customization.

About CSS file if you can tell me what changes to do.
For to be honest i havent write code in my life:)
I will give it a try later because i need to leave now:) And i will inform you how went.
Thanks

PS. Can you do it also for the forum?i am not sure if it is default

Code: (find) [Select]
$item['subject'],
Code: (replace) [Select]
'<span ', ($item['new'] ? '' : 'class="my_unread_title" ' ), '> $item['subject'], '</span>',
Please read a little about CSS at
http://w3schools.com/css/default.asp

* CSS class http://w3schools.com/css/css_id_class.asp (the class selector)
* Styling text http://w3schools.com/css/css_text.asp

You can put your class selector in Themes/default/css/portal.css
Remember you will have to do this all over again after any SimplePortal updates.
