SP uses the css classes used by SMF. If you made the SMF classes transparent... then SP will also be transparent.

Thanks so much!! I really want to see by background images through the forum. Happy to here it's possible.
Could you tell me where to find that file and maybe get me started on how to code the background images to be transparent?
Thanks

It seems the website you linked uses a png with alpha opacity as background image, which is one way to do it. It'd definitely be more efficient to use some css to achieve this though.

Try adding these styles to whatever your class or id your background is set to in your .css file.
Code: [Select]
.transparency {
filter:alpha(opacity=60);
-moz-opacity:0.6;
-khtml-opacity: 0.6;
opacity: 0.6;
}

Where would I look to add this file?

The theme's CSS file will be in Themes/<theme name>/css/index.css

You might find more traffic and more help over at http://simplemachines.org
Your question should be fine there because it does not involve SimplePortal.

I tried setting the opacity in the blocks themselves and what I found was that the images or videos that I had in those blocks would also get the opacity which didn't work very well when viewing videos.  It all depends on what the user needs but I found using a background .png gave me more control over the display and it really isn't that much more work.

You can also set the opacity of the child elements (<img <object, <embed, whatever you are using for the embedding) back to 100%.

I guess it depends on what you are mainly using it for.  I use the Aeva mod to link videos and there is no child tag in those posts, it's just a bbc url code.  And since there are lots of videos and images posted in my forums it was easier for me to just make the background image.  The theme doesn't change anyway.

<------------this seems like the solution, the only problem is that it's greek to me and i don't know about any classes or id's or whatnot.
