« on: November 29, 2010, 10:48:42 PM »
hey guys... i was wondering if you had the same problem im facing now...

i got a backup file from smfnew.com because i want to move my forum to my own server...

anyway... after i "ran" the installation from my backup file and see everything in the forum looks like when smfnew.com was hosting it.. im ready to upload some themes and Mods as well...

all new mods that i installed run just fine... except for the Simple Portal mod... which is giving me hard time with an error... here is a picture of the error message...

there is any way to fix this problem..??

thanks in advance guys..!!!

cheers

Juancho.

My guess was that this error is happening when the script install2.php is trying to drop the column 'content' from a SimplePortal table.
But, in the install2.php that I got with SimplePortal2.3.3, that's not exactly what is happening on line 967.

So I am confused.

I *think* this is happening in the part of install2.php that is supposed to update existing SimplePortal tables. But I cannot be sure.

The only workaround I can think of involves making a change to install2.php.

That shouldn't be necessary, of course.

I have no idea why there have been so many of these odd database-related errors since RC4.

What version of SMF and SimplePortal did you have running at the time you made the backup you are working from?

well.. here is the thing...

initially i was running smf 1.1.1.1 i think... then, the staff from smfnew.com installed the RC3... because they don't let us do any modification to the forum...

anyway... i paid to get this backup file from them... but it have a sort of problems... like the one i have with the Simple Portal Mod...

also i just find out, when i restore my forum in my own home server... and then when i do the backup file from my "restored" forum... by the time i want to run my own backup file... it just loading 15 tables.. and give me a database error...

anyway... i run a brand new/fresh forum... and i don't have a problem at all..!!! i can install simple portal with no problem... and i can run backup files without any problem as well...

i think the backup file from these guys is corrupted or something...

i will find it out soon... however, any suggestion from you guys will be appreciate it.

cheers

Juan.

I have also had a problem with SMF backups sometimes.  It just quits in the middle.
There is a better way to get SMF backups -- [Unknown]'s backup and restore scripts work much better than what is built into SMF.
Of course, they should probably have non-SMF tools for database backups.

I'm glad you have found a way to move forward.
I am sorry that you were not able to get the data from your forum.

In versions older than 2.2, SimplePortal used to have a field named 'content' in 'sp_blocks' table. So while installing, SimplePortal will check the 'sp_version' value in 'smf_settings' table and if it's less than 2.2, it will try to update your blocks to match the new block structure.

I believe the problem you are having is, you have been running 2.2 or a newer version but you don't have 'sp_version' in your 'smf_settings' table or it isn't updated. You can add fix that yourself by running this query via phpMyAdmin:

REPLACE INTO smf_settings
VALUES ('sp_version', '2.3')

You should change 2.3 as the version you have been running before.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...
