Need Help
« on: March 07, 2012, 02:43:19 PM »
Hello guys,

First of all I would like to thank you for the best site ever, it looks cool, helpful administrators, cool mods. But recently I was thinking to create a forum, then I got an older version of SMF, I wanted to upgrade it and be able to install packages and whatsoever, anyway the problem is, I don't know how to install, not at all, really confused with these stuff.. so.. could anyone help me here? With steps please, coz' you know, I'm baby steps. :nervous-happy:

P.S. Verification Codes are a big pain in the butt xD

Oh btw, there is one problem, on SMF site, I cannot access to my database or anything, it won't login, won't request another password, or anything, although they've sent me a password earlier this day, same with SMF Support Site, they said they've emailed me to identify me.. but still, there is no message till now, neither in my inbox nor spam box. What can I do?

Welome to Simple Portal Supernatural!  :)

We only support Simple Portal and any plugins made for it on this site. Any general SMF inquiries are supported at simplemachines.org

In order to install Simple Portal on your site, the best way is to download the latest version to your computer (from Downloads at the top of this page)  & then use your Admin -> Package Manager -> Download Packages page to upload & install it onto your site.

Welcome, and thank you.

I'll do what you said but there is one problem.. Where can I download Package Manager from? There are too many programs called Package Manager on Google. So it would be nice if you post any link, I would really appreciate it. Thanks again! :)

P.S. I already have 2.3.4 Package, only reason that's stopping me is how to install. :p

Simple Portal is an additional modification package for the Simple Machines Forum software & the package manager I am referring to is built into that software (SMF).
To use Simple Portal (SP), you must first install the Simple Machines Forum (SMF) software & then you will be able to use its built-in package manager to install SP.

Here is the reference to the wiki for instruction on how to install SMF: Click Here.

Thanks m8! I'll definitely look it up!
Will keep you posted if I had any problems.

EDIT: I'm done with this crap, I suck, I still can't get it.
I am using FileZilla, typing my host name, into host bar, I typed this "www.extremefreedom.smfnew.com" then my ID and Pass, it says cannot connect to server.

Could you please tell SMFnew forum to fix this stupid problem? I can't get on my Control Panel, nor their support forum, registration is down, it said that it'd send me a verification email, but untill now, nothing! I am really sick of this. :|

Supernatural please keep calm.

Using smfnew you are more limited with what you can do other than if you had been with using the forum at www.simplemachines.org

I would use it for more of a learning curve than anything else.

Supernatural,

This all sounds very frustrating. Since you are new to all this, it can be very difficult to understand which things are causing your problems.

I think your first step will be to sort some things out with your host, SMFNew, to find out how to use your new forum.

After that, if you are still having difficulty, you might ask the support specialists there about any difficulty you are having installing SimplePortal.  I see they use it themselves, so I assume they should be familiar with installing this mod.

Standard SMF comes with Package Manager built right in, which enables one to get and install any appropriate SMF mod. I don't know what tools SMFNew provides, or if they have any restrictions on mods you can install.  They can probably answer all of your questions.
Please to keep this website running, if you like SimplePortal, make a
one-time subscription. Thank you for your support.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?
