Horizontal Scroll On Blocks
« on: September 02, 2010, 10:58:22 PM »
SMF 1.1.11
SP 2.3.2
http://www.atc-airsoft.com/index.php

I have a horizontal scroll on every one of my blocks no matter how big I set the blocks to be.
Any way to get rid of them?

I just realized this problem only occurs when using Chrome.
Lowers my need to fix it, but it would still be nice to get rid of them.

Make a copy of your 'Themes/default/portal.css' file at 'Themes/{custom_themename}/portal.css' then search for 'div.sp_block', remove the relevant line that contains the code 'overflow: auto;'.

Have you been able to find a solution to this one?
in div.sp_block, overflow: hidden  really ought to fix this one.
Have you tried that?

1) The css file that you altered -- where is it located
2) please attach the css file.

Seriously.  Is Chrome going to ignore overflow: hidden;

The file attached below was located in atc-airsoft.com/Themes/dark_4
I also altered the one in atc-airsoft.com/Themes/default

You know what? Since you gave me your URL, I didn't even need you to attach that file -- I can look and see which one you are using.  Duh.

So I had a look, and used IE8's developer tools.

Here are two things that may help you:

1) You are using Themes/default/portal.css -- you can see this by looking at the page HTML.  That's how SimplePortal does it for SMF 1.1.11 -- portal.css must be in the default theme.

2) You are using SMF 1.1.11. duh.  So I actually looked at the HTML.  Using IE8 developer tools to point at a block.  And am suddenly reminded that SimplePortal for SMF 1.x doesn't even use div.sp_block.  It does use div.sp_block_container.  So you'll probably have more luck playing with the CSS for div.sp_block_container.

Moral of this story: When you are having trouble understanding what's going on with the HTML and CSS of a page, have a look at the HTML and CSS that are actually on the page. I should have thought of that earlier.  :-[

Awesome! Thank you!
Just had to make the div.sp_block_container overflow: hidden

Thank you very much Angelina!

Now that you've seen it done, you can do the same next time you need to figure something like this out.  I recommend IE8 developers tools or Firefox with Firebug.  Very useful.

I recently change my theme and now I am having a problem with a scroll bar on my Articles.
I looked through my portal.css and couldn't find anything overflows that fixed my problem...
I don't exactly know what I am looking for if it's not an overflow issue agian.

Again -- I would advise using a tool like IE8 or Firebug to see what container is having the overflow problem.  Then you can easily fix the problem.
