Hi all, first post, I had the same problem with Chackan, so what I did was ran upgrade.php from SMF & then i ran the install_1-1.php on the server.

Both went smoothly, but after that when I activated the Shoutbox block, the page won't load and I get a 500 Internal Server Error. Now the Host hasn't gotten back to me on what was the problem, nor do I have access to cpanel to check out what went wrong, but decided to post here just as a record of what I've done.

I also tried to do a search for 500 Internal Errors related to the Shoutbox but came up empty. perhaps it is just a corner case issue with my Host. If anyone encountered similar problems before with the Shoutbox, do share your solution. Thanks.

edit: additional information. I did try to modify the settings in the Shoutbox, removing the cache, but nothing at all. It just returns the 500 Internal Server Error the moment it is 'active'. If it's non-active the forum/portal loads fine.

Update: added my SMF & SP versions into my signature. No idea why it doesn't appear in the user profile column of each post. And I am still encountering the 500 Internal Error when the Shoutbox gets activated.

I've included the [http://forum.ilovegames.com.sg/index.php/board,10.0.html]link to my forum's 500 Internal Error[/url]

the rest of the forum is fine, i only restricted the Shoutbox block to only appear in this sub-forum that no-one visits often enough. If a SimplePortal support member could offer any advice or suggestion it would be most useful. I really would like to use the integrated Shoutbox rather than install another module from SMF. Thanks in advance for the help. And

If you had the collation error, you need to fix this on your database. The SMF and SimplePortal files are not involved.

Sorry AngelinaBelle, I just realized that board was not accessible by guests. i've modified that and now guests can view that board. please give it a try again.

as for collation error, hmmm i don't see the error message anymore, does that mean it was fixed in the update process that i mentioned in my earlier post? is there any other way to determine if the collation error still exists?

thanks so much for replying. was very afraid i had no where else to turn to for help.

I am pretty sure the Shoutbox is active. please see the attached images. if there is some other configuration that I missed, do let me know thanks.

I've also included the error message that I get when I click on a page that I indicated above. Let me know if you are seeing the same error.

were you referring to alsoforum's reply or mine? i still have the error message whenever the shoutbox is active. basically the forum won't work when shoutbox is active. only when it is disabled.

Of course -- you have already tried editing the shoutbox block, and re-selecting the desired shoutbox from the list of shoutboxes?
