When I try to install simple portal on SMF 2.0 RC3 I get the following error:

You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

I put the following information in and it gives me that error.

The SMF online manual has information on setting file permissions that might help you:
http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=91

If that doesn't work, please see the suggestion posted here: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=5511.msg33123#msg33123

Could somebody point me in the right direction to find the solution for this please? I have found two posts about the line 967 error message and both just say they are fixed - but they don't say HOW.

I have SMF 2.0RC3 and SP2.3.2 on a test installation mirror of my site. The error is:

Unknown column 'content' in 'field list'
File: /home/....../public_html/Packages/temp/install2.php
Line: 967

But line 967 seems to be blank.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Ok, I have no resolved the problem also.

Just in case anybody experiences this again and finds this post .... it is caused if your installation didn't work properly the first time. Just use phpmyadmin or similar and delete the sp tables in the database, then reinstall the package, and it should all work.

Sorry admins if this is repeating something already on the site but I searched here and on Google and couldn't find anything. So I hope this helps somebody else.
