MMO RSS feed not working
« on: November 25, 2010, 03:57:43 AM »
SMF 2.0 RC4
SP 2.3.3
http://www.fraternitas-ferreus.net/forum/index.php
Invalid feed.

Hello

I am trying to get an RSS block running with the URL
http://www.mmo-champion.com/external.php?do=rss&type=newcontent&sectionid=1&days=120&count=10
but get the above mentioned error "Invalid feed.".

This validator site here claims its valid though:
http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mmo-champion.com%2Fexternal.php%3Fdo%3Drss%26type%3Dnewcontent%26sectionid%3D1%26days%3D120%26count%3D10

I saw an older post stating that SP only supports RSS but not Atom feeds. Is this an Atom feed as well? If so, sorry to bother you and I shut up. If not, what can I do to get this feed running?

Thanks

Unfortunately, there are real problems with SimplePortal's RSS block. It fails on some perfectly good feeds, and does find on others. The reason is that it relies on some SMF code that isn't really up to the task.

Unfortunately, there is no simple fix. It will take the devlopers some real work to come up with a good RSS block for a future version of SimplePortal.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

Thanks for the info. I lived without a RSS block for some years now, so I think I can handle a few more, no problems! :-)

I'm sorry it is that way. I don't know why the block works perfectly for some feeds and not for others.
I'm going to mark this one as solved, even though the answer is "No".  You can "unsolve" this topic if you need to.
