Topic: Image hotlink auto fixer

Hi,

The title may not be completely clear on which kind of mod I want to use, here are the details.

Have you ever hot-linked an image into a thread, then the image address becomes invalid, due to image deletion, or an image hosts site bandwidth expiring on your account, ie. photobucket.

Well, For the "unlimited webhost bandwidth" users, I would think somehow having hot-linked images downloaded to the server then the appropriate link changed in the topic.

Image links from a chosen list of websites/servers will automatically be downloaded to the forums server and then the link will be changed to the internal address.

There would also be an option for which boards will use the feature, also an option for topics only or replies too.

This is a mod request section, just not for SMF. They have their own one.

You are correct. The board does just say "mod requests".  Then again it is in SimplePortal's Customization category... 
 
I think you had a good idea posting the idea at simplemachines.org, where a larger number of experienced modders will see it. Since the idea is not directly related to SimplePortal, I think it's better off over there.

I think its a good idea, I dont like a post where images are missing because of hotlinked content. This would be a  way to solve the issue, but apparently its too complex and any customizer would charge at least $250 to do this...

It is a bit complex.
Plus, there could be copyright issues to automatically downloading images.
 
Encouraging users to use attachments instead of hotlinks is one approach.
 
Getting a gallery mod with an "easy post" feature (like Aeva Media + foxy) is another.
 
But this is terribly off-topic for this board.
