Below is the blocks in blocks php code I'm using for my site.

I want to add a switch that controls the amount of characters the php block puts in each block.

And, oh, for some reason the switch in each block doesn't work.

What's the switch? Where are you limiting the number of columns?
Have you considered using the [cutoff] tag in the posts themselves?

I'm currently using the "cutoff" tag.

I want an automatic limit if there's a way of actualizing one.

There are character limits in boardnews and Article blocks. You never know where that is going to fall, though.
Sometimes, that cutoff comes right in the middle of a URL or IMG tag, for example, and makes an awful mess of things.

So I prefer to use the cutoff tag wherever possible, for better control.
