Trying to display a block only when posting on board=5
« on: February 04, 2014, 01:10:40 PM »
Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how show a block only when I'm posting in a certain board.

I checked the board in advanced and under custom added:
~action|post
That displays it on the board=5 and topics as well.

I need to show it when i post on board=5 but remove it from topic and message index but can not figure out how to do it.

Also, on board id=6 I need to show a different block on topic, but not on board and not on post. (here i know i can use -post to hide it on post, but not how to hide it on board)

Any thoughts?

The custom blocks display can help
http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=custom_blocks_display

-~board|5, -~topic
The big problem here is that it there is no way to use these rules for "show when posting, but only for board=5" because these rules merely check the URL for the page.

The truth is, I have not worked much at all with the newer, much more fancy and advanced rules that have access to the program settings, so I cannot even tell you if it is possible to do with these rules.

"show this block when posting to board=5, but only when making a post"

Use the following as Custom Display Options for the blocks:

Code: [Select]
$php global $context; return (isset($context['current_action']) && $context['current_action'] == 'post' && isset($context['current_board']) && $context['current_board'] == 5);
Code: [Select]
$php global $context; return (empty($context['current_action']) && !empty($context['current_topic']) && isset($context['current_board']) && $context['current_board'] == 6);

And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Thank you both for the replies :)

I tried the codes you supplied me with [SiNaN], both when I had the board checked and when I did not.
Whoever the first (id=5) shows up everywhere I'm trying to post, not just the board, and the second (id=6) shows up on every board topic, not just those that belong to that board.

Sorry, there was a typo in both of the codes above. I have fixed it now, so try again.

Thank you so much! :)

I tried to figure out what was wrong, thinking it might by a typo, and even tried do add ' around the id, as i thought that might be the missing part. Didn't even glance at the "=" part.

In the first code, is it possible to also add post2? I ask because I just realized that the block does not show if you preview the post through the quick reply since it uses post2.

I am not an expert with this more "fancy" kind of custom display options. Please test this and see if it does what you want.

In the first example above, 'post2' does appear in the expression. But if it is not in there in the way which you want it, you can try to
move it around, until the entire expression does what you mean it to do.

In general, you can modify any kind of expression, using AND and OR and parentheses to create a new expression.
So, for example, where you see a condition
Code: [Select]
$context['current_action'] == 'post'And you wish to allow 'post' or 'post2' in that situation, you could try
Code: [Select]
($context['current_action'] == 'post' || $context['current_action'] == 'post2' )
Is this what you mean?

Thank you :) I was unsure of how to add an or-statement to the and-statements without messing up the statements. Now I think I know how to change the variables in the future and also made this work.

I'm glad that worked, and I've marked this solved.

Now you know something about Boolean algebra as implemented in php.  Isn't it grand?
