URL Rewriting
« on: October 04, 2011, 06:44:05 PM »
Hello,
I'd like to access some of my Pages via a url that doesn't include the forum.  Here's an example:

Desired access url:
http://www.mydomain.com/my-page

Actual accesss url:
http://www.mydomain.com/forum/index.php/page,my-page.html

I tried RewriteRule in the root .htaccess, but I dont want the url to actually change, but rather just be shortened.

I'm using SimplePortal 2.3.3 and SMF 2.0

Thanks for any info

You can create a page that simply puts the "Actual access url" in an iframe.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

You can use apache redirection instead.

Open ./htaccess and add to the end of the file:

Code: [Select]
Redirect permanent /forum/index.php/page,my-page.html http://www.mydomain.com/my-page

Thanks for the replies.

An iframe won't work because the point is to have the page be search engine friendly.

I've tried several apache directives, but w/o any luck...I'll list them below and their results when trying to access http://www.mydomain.com/my-page:

Code: [Select]
Redirect permanent /forum/index.php/page,my-page.html http://www.mydomain.com/my-pagePage not found...this would redirect from /forum/index.php/page,my-page.html to my-page, when I actually want to rewrite from replay to /forum/index.php/page,my-page.html

Code: [Select]
Redirect permanent http://www.mydomain.com/my-page /forum/index.php/page,my-page.htmlPage not found

Code: [Select]
Redirect permanent /my-page http://www.mydomain.com/forum/index.php/page,my-page.htmlThis shows the correct content, but the url is changed to http://www.mydomain.com/forum/index.php/page,my-page.html

Code: [Select]
RewriteRule ^my-page$ http://www.mydomain.com/forum/index.php/page,my-page.htmlAgain, this shows the correct content, but the url is changed.

So, I can get the right content, but I don't want the url to change from mydomain.com/my-page

Any other ideas?

Thanks

EDIT: I figured it out...here's what I need:

Code: [Select]
RewriteRule ^my-page$ /forum/index.php?page=my-pageApparently, the "Search engine friendly URLs" option under configuration messes up rewriting...you can leave that option on, but when writing your own rewrites, you need to refer to pages by the old "?page=wutever" method.

That's great! I've marked this one solved, then. Let me know if this is incorrect.
