Lost Forum Button using Simple Portal on Front Page
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:41:42 PM »
For some reason now I have lost the Forum Button when I have the Simple Portal set to the Front Page.  At one time there was a Home Button, Forum Button, etc. in there, now if I set it to the home page there is only the home button without the forum button.  And if I have it disabled the home button becomes the link to the forum.  I think someone may have buggered with the code somehow.  I would like to know what file it could have been and maybe compare, or I could post up the code for you to look at.

If you are using SMF 2.0.2, this is very surprising.
When you uninstalled SP 2.3.4, then installe SP 2.3.5, the installer should have fixed up your Home and Forum buttons in Subs.php.

Which theme are you using?

It was working just fine, I think someone else must have messed with the file or something.  One of the other guys was talking about making a sub button or something that gave you the option of linking to either the forum mainpage, or you could go to the website mainpage, or maybe even adding a button to the row...
At any rate, I don't know what file was messed with, and he says he did not do anything that would mess anything up.  I'm using the core theme on the forum.  Once this is fixed, I am going to back everything up, it is only just getting going so still pretty new, only a few days old.

So the previous post was the backup that was created by installing Simple Portal.  He messed up the Simple Portal file, and downloaded it and renamed the backup is what he did.  This is the output of the area he messed with in the Simple Portal file.  Something is not right with it, even Dreamweaver says that, but I am not sure what it is.

Code: [Select]
'profile' => array(
'title' => $txt['profile'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=profile',
'show' => $context['allow_edit_profile'],
'sub_buttons' => array(
'summary' => array(
'title' => $txt['summary'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=profile',
'show' => true,
),
'account' => array(
'title' => $txt['account'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=profile;area=account',
'show' => allowedTo(array('profile_identity_any', 'profile_identity_own', 'manage_membergroups')),
),
'profile' => array(
'title' => $txt['forumprofile'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=profile;area=forumprofile',
'show' => allowedTo(array('profile_extra_any', 'profile_extra_own')),
'is_last' => true,
),
),
),
'pm' => array(
'title' => $txt['pm_short'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=pm',
'show' => $context['allow_pm'],
'sub_buttons' => array(
'pm_read' => array(

'pm_send' => array(
'title' => $txt['pm_menu_send'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=pm;sa=send',
'show' => allowedTo('pm_send'),
'is_last' => true,
),
),
),
'calendar' => array(
'title' => $txt['calendar'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=calendar',
'show' => $context['allow_calendar'],
'sub_buttons' => array(
'view' => array(
'title' => $txt['calendar_menu'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=calendar',
'show' => allowedTo('calendar_post'),
),
'post' => array(
'title' => $txt['calendar_post_event'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=calendar;sa=post',
'show' => allowedTo('calendar_post'),
'is_last' => true,
),
),
),
'mlist' => array(
'title' => $txt['members_title'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=mlist',

'sub_buttons' => array(
'mlist_view' => array(
'title' => $txt['mlist_menu_view'],

// Allow editing menu buttons easily.

// Now we put the buttons in the context so the theme can use them.
$menu_buttons = array();
foreach ($buttons as $act => $button)

{
$button['active_button'] = false;

// Make sure the last button truely is the last button.

Did he keep a copy of the file before he messed with it? That would be the one to go back to.
Otherwise, the simplest thing could be to uninstall and re-install Simple Portal, just to get Subs.php back to how it was before your friend changed it.

Here is some advice on customizing your forum.
1) create a test forum. Make it exactly the same as your real forum, only in a different directory, and using a copy of the main forum database
2) Make changes and tests on the files in the test forum.
3) Before making the changes on the "real" forum, take a "backup copy" of all the files you are going to be changing
4) Copy the files from the test forum to the real forum

I did have a backup copy of the original Subs.php forum on my computer actually, that is good to know, I'll uninstall and re install and see if that works, I did like the "Home" Page for the forum while it was up.  Then once that is done I'm going to make another total backup again to my computer.

Not only did you lose the forum button, but you lost a lot of critical edits that SimplePortal makes in the Subs.php file.

Recommended to uninstall SimplePortal (you will most likely get errors for Subs.php, this is normal), and then reinstall it (and you should get NO errors).
