URGENT HELP NEEDED... CPU LOAD during SP Load
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:04:03 PM »
Hello there,

My hosting company is observing too much load on CPU when loading SP.
(This is their 3rd complain letter I got from their department)

I am very satisfied with SP 2.0 RC 4 and SMF 2.3.3 thats why I don't want to leave them.

Now I need help from you  to decrease CPU Load.

SMF personnel advised me to  off shoutbox at the bottom of forum as well as search option.

At the moment I have disabled chat box and shout box for the guest, increased shot box refresh time with 15 seconds but I need a permanent solution for this issue.

here is my sp www.baask.com/diwwan

I have more then 50 pages and more then 30 blocks in SP.
Pages are linked within other pages.

now i need to know that what is the procedure of sp loading these pages and blocks?

Is it loading all articles, pages and blocks (even not visible on front page) at the start up?

If I want to load only front page blocks (excluding smf status, random gallery items and shout box on forum) at time of loading http://www.baask.com/diwwan/index.php

When visitor clicks on forum then it should only load blocks placed on forum http://baask.com/diwwan/index.php?action=forum

When visitors clicks on BOOKS PAGE it should load pages related to the thumbnails available on http://baask.com/literature

If you have any other idea please do share

With thanks

looking forward
Raji Baloch

Probably disabling the shout box on all pages will stop the angry letters.
Then you can get to work on other issues.

Shout box is only visible on forum's bottom area.

Chat room is already uninstalled and there is no any other place where members can interact with each other.

It might be useful to disable the shoutbox and find out if you still have problems with high load after that.

Good.  Next, see which blocks cause the most CPU use.
Maybe you need fewer blocks on a page.

You have a lot of blocks on your home page.

If you want to know exactly how much resources are used, you would have to use a php profiler.

But here is a simpler way to get a rough idea:
1) On your forum, go to /index.php?action=admin;area=featuresettings;sa=layout
Turn on Display time taken to create every page
2) Create a SimplePortal HTML page. The center part of the page can be blank.
Make sure no blocks are showing
3) Check the time taken to create the page, and the number of queries. Check the time several times, to get a good idea. Sometimes, temporary load on the server increases time.
4) One at a time, make each of the blocks show on your test page. Each time, check the number of queries and the time.

Eventually, you might learn if one block causes most of the problem, or if it is just too many blocks for the number of users and the amount of CPU your host allows for you.

Dear AngelinaBelle,

Thank u so much for your continue guidance. After thorough checking of SP Blocks and mods installed on SMF my hosting support team diagnosed that there is a big issue in AVEA MEDIA MOD. I have uninstalled it then checked the difference in page created time at the bottom of the page.
After fresh installation of AVEA MEDIA problem has been resolved. I have activated SHOUTBOX again now page creation time is 0.33 section and I think its not a big issue for the CPU LOAD.

If you have any other suggestion for future security please let me know.

With bundle of thanks and best regards,

Raji Baloch

Thank you for sharing with us your observations on AEVA Media mod.
Have you shared this with the mod's author? You can report it on the mod's support thread (Arantor often responds there), or else at aeva.noisen.com.

Thanks  AngelinaBelle for your reply. Yes I had informed them then they said Its because of auto video embedder's  on status but I feel this mod always conflict with SP and increase the CPU Load.
