Trying To Add Block Error
« on: January 08, 2011, 06:11:47 PM »
So, I've had SimplePortal for the past few years now and love it.  I'm currently using RC4 with 2.3.3 of SP.  My portal page looks fine and has been for quite some time.  I've rearranged things, added articles, etc etc.  Then, I went in to freshen up the page and hit ADD BLOCK and got:

Quote
Table 'channel4gaming_com_c4g.channel4gaming_com_c4g_sp_functions' doesn't exist
File: /var/www/html/Sources/Subs-PortalAdmin.php
Line: 104

Then, I looked in my error log to see what other info was pulled and saw:

Quote
Apply Filter: Only show the error messages of this URL
http://www.channel4gaming.com/index.php?action=admin;area=portalblocks;sa=add;b013b6b67=45554e512e9e9945872e5741478e8c9f
Apply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
Database Error: Table 'channel4gaming_com_c4g.channel4gaming_com_c4g_sp_functions' doesn't exist

SELECT id_function, name
FROM channel4gaming_com_c4g_sp_functions
ORDER BY function_order
Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: /var/www/html/Sources/Subs-PortalAdmin.php
Line: 104

Does this mean that I just need to create the functions table in the database?  I'm wondering why it isn't there since I've been upgrading my site since the beta of SMF and have been using SP.  As I recall, all of my previous information from its previous versions has remained in the database, so not sure why it is missing now.  How many other tables are supposed to be created in reference to simple portal?  I have sp_articles, sp_blocks, sp_categories, sp_pages, sp_parameters, sp_shoutboxes, shouts all in my database, but no sp_functions.

How do I create the sp_functions in phpmyadmin and any others I am missing?
 Do I just run a query of something like:

CREATE TABLE channel4gaming_com_c4g_sp_functions
Column1 DataType,
Column2 DataType,
Column3 DataType,
….

)

If so, what info do I put for the column info?

Sorry, but I'm a N000000000000B when it comes to Databases.  (They scare me...lol)

btw, error log was clean other than this.

OK, I figured if I uninstalled the mod and reinstalled it, it would create any missing tables and what not.  It uninstalled cleanly.  I went ahead and uploaded a fresh package of 2.3.3 and didn't get any failed tests.  Once I hit the INSTALL though, I got the following:

Invalid default value for 'approved'
File: /var/www/html/Packages/temp/install2.php
Line: 501

Suggestions on how to actually get this installed again now?

Do I just manually install the mod and then create the missing database table?

If so, refer to the previous post on how do I create the missing table(s)?

OK, I went through and installed the mod manually by performing all the EDITS and by making sure all the files that needed uploaded were CURRENT from the package.

My database still only has the tables that I listed previously, since I didn't do anything there.

Should I just delete my sp_ tables from my database and run a new query to create them again correctly?

If so, how do I go about doing this.  I'm assuming this really is the only part that I am lacking at this point.

Thanks in advance.

This is a little strange.
Did you have the "install2.php" problem when you first upgraded to 2.3.3, and solve it by removing install2.php from the gzipped package?

Maybe some change in SMF means the same old install2.php doesn't work in the same old way.

Strangely, I have not run into this problem.
Could you attach DbPackages-mysql.php, just so I can be sure I am not going crazy?

I'm glad to see that your production site is unaffected.
I'm going to suggest a little experiment on install2.php. If you did the "remove install2.php from the package" trick before, I know you can handle "replace install2.php with a new version of install2.php" this time.
Code: (find) [Select]
   array(
    'name' => 'approved',
    'type' => 'tinyint',
    'size' => '2',
   ),
Code: (replace) [Select]
   array(
    'name' => 'approved',
    'type' => 'tinyint',
    'size' => '2',
    'default' => 0),
Please report how this works out. If you get past 'approved' and it hangs up on one of the other columns, then I think it will be pretty clear what to do with them.

Thanks for trying!

Actually, I found a different workaround for my situation.  I have another site that I had upgraded to RC4 recently and exported the sp_functions table from it.  Then, I imported it into the forum that was missing the table and changed the name to match the site that had the problem.  Everything worked when I went back into add a block.

As far as your questions go:

I've never had any install problems with SP previously, so whatever was in the package at the time of installation was whatever came with it.  I didn't delete anything from it.

Whenever I've upgraded from say RC3 to RC4 or any previous versions, I've uninstalled all mods and then performed the upgrade.  I don't recall ever doing any edits in the DBPackages file, but here it is.  (I keep a spreadsheet of all mods I use with the files they alter and that one isn't listed as being changed, so it should be the one from RC4 since it would have been replaced upon upgrade to RC4.  But, here it is...

Thanks for that. I was actually checking that I hadn't messed up *MY* copy of the file.
Which I had. But I don't think that made any difference to db_add_column or db_change_column.
I don't know what caused the problem about the default value for the column.

Importing the table was a good idea. It was the only thing you needed.
Only a failed install2 should have caused it to disappear like that.  Quite the mystery.

Fingers crossed. I've brought up the "default value" issue.
