SMF version prior to fresh install: 2.0 RC2
Simple Portal version: can't remember

Due to a confluence problems the resulted in my forum no longer working and having issues getting language files installed properly, I have been resolved to just start over fresh.  As such, as I was deleting my forum, i encountered an error over FTP and from my control panel for administration for the site.  The error is:

An error occurred deleting the file or folder on the FTP Server.  Make sure you have permission to access this folder.

Details:
550 Could not delete *.png:  Permission denied

I know I have permission to delete because I am using the administrator ftp account.  I have even attempted to overwrite the files with no success.  I really do not want to create a new folder for the fresh install.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I hope this is not a server issue because it means I have to do what I don't want to do.

This is not a SimplePortal or even an SMF issue.
This is a feature of UNIX -- file permissions to prevent you from accidently deleting files.
Once you give yourself permission to delete the files, you will have permission to delete the files. You could use the CHMOD to change permission. Most popular free FT clients have a simple way to change permissions, starting at one directory, all the way down through the listed files and directories, and the files and directories inside the directories, and so on.
If that does not work, your next step would be to check ownership of the files. Some hosts have little quirks, so that you sometimes wind up with files in your directory with the wrong owner.
