Displaying accented characters in Pages
« on: October 25, 2010, 08:02:48 AM »
Hello everybody!

A small problem with displaying accented characters in frames contained in HTML Sportal pages.

Here is the link for verification
http://www.imagesetcartesdevoeux.com/index.php?page=horoscope

Thank you for your help.

By "frames" do you mean "pages"?

I am confused.  I do not see an HTML <frame> element, or an HTML <iframe> element on this page.

I do see an error in the URL you used.  It has a space in it.
Code: (find) [Select]
http://www.lhoroscope.com/partenaires/Auto/csd.asp?belier=1&taureau=1&gemeaux=1&cancer=1&lion=1&vierge=1&balance=1&scorpion=1&sagittaire=1&capricorne=1&verseau=1&poissons=1&CouleurTexte=000000 &CouleurTitre=660000&Aff_Date=0&FontTailleTitre=3&FontFaceTitre=Verdana&FontTailleTexte=2&FontFaceTexte=Verdana
Code: (replace) [Select]
http://www.lhoroscope.com/partenaires/Auto/csd.asp?belier=1&taureau=1&gemeaux=1&cancer=1&lion=1&vierge=1&balance=1&scorpion=1&sagittaire=1&capricorne=1&verseau=1&poissons=1&CouleurTexte=000000&CouleurTitre=660000&Aff_Date=0&FontTailleTitre=3&FontFaceTitre=Verdana&FontTailleTexte=2&FontFaceTexte=Verdana

Or perhaps (as you used in the other example page)
Code: (replace) [Select]
http://www.lhoroscope.com/partenaires/Auto/csd.asp?belier=1&taureau=1&gemeaux=1&cancer=1&lion=1&vierge=1&balance=1&scorpion=1&sagittaire=1&capricorne=1&verseau=1&poissons=1&CouleurTexte=000000%20&CouleurTitre=660000&Aff_Date=0&FontTailleTitre=3&FontFaceTitre=Verdana&FontTailleTexte=2&FontFaceTexte=Verdana

OK.

Regarding http://www.imagesetcartesdevoeux.com/index.php?page=horoscope
Is this page a SimplePortal HTML page?

Please try this URL on that page:
Code: [Select]
<script language="Javascript" src="http://www.lhoroscope.com/partenaires/Auto/csd.asp?belier=1&taureau=1&gemeaux=1&cancer=1&lion=1&vierge=1&balance=1&scorpion=1&sagittaire=1&capricorne=1&verseau=1&poissons=1&CouleurTexte=000000 &CouleurTitre=660000&Aff_Date=0&FontTailleTitre=3&FontFaceTitre=Verdana&FontTailleTexte=2&FontFaceTexte=Verdana"></script>
It has no spaces in it.

I have just tried this URL in an English-language forum (with and without the space), and all the characters looked fine.

Are you using French or French-UTF8 for your forum?

This problem does not appear when the same HTML is embedded in a page in an English forum.

There seems to be a bug somewhere.
I do not know where the bug is -- whether the fault is with SMF or with SimplePortal.

I will ask the developers to look into this.

I was very unclear.  I should have stated that the English forum I tested it in was NOT UTF8.

I believe the problem is that the script produces characters that are not compatable with UTF8, so the browser shows them "wrong".

Perhaps you can check with the horoscope provider to find out if there is an option to get UTF8 output instead of ISO output.

You have a UTF8 forum; you need UTF8-compatable characters.

This is not a SimplePortal issue -- if you used any other means to display the output from those scripts, you would get the same result.

On a page without UTF8 headers, you would not get that problem. Only UTF8 (like your forum) will give you the problem
