« on: June 04, 2010, 05:13:41 AM »
Hi,

Every RSS-Feed-Box didn't work and show the same error.

I tried several RSS-Feeds but the errormessage is always the same.

I use SMF 1.1.19 and SimplePortal 2.3.2.

You did not say which RSS feeds you tried. Do you get this error when you try http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss?

I use SMF 1.1.19
Which version of SMF are you using?

Hi,

i'm using SMF 1.1.11 ... a litte mistake  :-[

The SMF-RSS-Feed works.

But maybe you can tell me why these RSS-Feeds didn't work.

I can see that these feeds are valid (with warnings), and that SimplePortal's RSS block does not handle them well.

I'll ask the devs if they know why.

Do you have either of the 'mbstring' or 'iconv' php libraries installed?

Well,

i don't really know very much about php  :-[

So i think the best would be to post my installed mods:

1.     SimplePortal      2.3.2
2.    SimplePortal - German    2.3.1
3.    Aeva Media    1.1b
4.    Favicon    1.3
5.    reCAPTCHA for SMF    0.9.8
6.    Load Standard Language    1.0.2
7.    Guild Wars BBCODE for SMF    1.8.3-4
8.     Downloads System      1.3.4
9.    Google Member Map    1.0 beta 4

I hope this will help ... even this is not the answer you need.

To find this information about your php environment, please do the following.

1) Please create a file called phpinfo.php
Make that file contain
Code: [Select]
<?php
<html>
<
head>
<
title>php info</title>
</
head>
<
body>
<?
phpversion();
phpinfo();
?>

</body>
</html>
?>

2) Copy that up to your server.

3) go to that file -- yoursite.com/phpinfo.php (or whereeveryou have put it)

4) Scroll down until you find the information about iconv, find out if it is enabled, and what version you've got, then do the same for the mbstring library.

Nathaniel seems to have some kind of hunch about the source of your problem -- I have no idea what it is.  I'm sure, when he gets the chance, he will pursue this with you.

Thanks

I don't know what I was thinking:
Code: [Select]
<html>
<head>
<title>php info</title>
</head>
<body>
<?
phpversion();
phpinfo();
?>
</body>
</html>

Yes -- it still doesn't work, and I don't know why.
At this time, I cannot recommend a fix to you.
I can confirm that you are not the only one with this problem.  You can see the problem if you create an RSS block at http://demo.simpleportal.net

This may be a thorny problem for the development team. And, unfortunately, the development team currently has very little time available for SimplePortal development.

I am sorry that the RSS feature fails on your feed (and on some other valid feeds, too), and I am sorry I cannot give you any estimate on when the RSS block may be improved.
