Browser Specific Block Issue: "Who's Online"
« on: May 13, 2010, 10:45:27 AM »
Simple Portal Version: 2.3.2
SMF Version: 1.1.11
Browsers: Safari and possibly others...

Problem:  This is a screen shot from one of my members on a Mac...using Safari.  They didn't specify which version...however, I can see it on the PC versions of Safari as well. This is what it looks like:

Now, I do want to stress that it isn't the length of the user name on that list, because it does occur with short names, long names...doesnt matter.  I know it's not an error, per se....but...

it's damned ugly.

Anything I can do to resolve this issue in Safari?  It does NOT occur in IE, Firefox, etc.

Thanks,

David

I am not familiar with the Safari browser.
With the example you give, it looks like the long username causes the block contents to be too wide for the block.
You do not show an example of this happening when the text is not too wide for the block.
If you can verify that the problem occurs even when the text is not too wide, please write back with more details.

In the meant time, one option you can consider is eliminating scrollbars on all SimplePortal blocks, no matter what is in them.
It will not force an oversized block contents to fit into their block, however. So you have the possibility of introducing another kind of ugliness at a later date.
