« on: July 25, 2011, 01:19:07 PM »
At the moment i am trying to work out how i can get members to see the shoutbox, i have it enabled for members but it doesn't show up. I'm using smf 2.0 and am having trouble getting it right.

The Shoutbox needs to be inside a block. Add a new block and select 'Shoutbox' type. On the settings page for the block, set the group permissions and select a Shoutbox from the 'Shoutbox to Display:' dropdown.

kingkingston,
are you still having trouble? Did AussiBill's advice help?
Can you be specific about the steps you took? Have you created a shoutbox block to display this shoutbox?

I have used simple portal many times and know how to set it up and set the right permissions but i have all the permissions set to allow all members to see the shoutbox and write in it but the shoutbox is only showing up for admins even though the permissions are set for members to see it as well.

Do members see the block, but not the shoutbox within it? Or do they not see the block at all?

That is very, very strange.  Can you try deleting the block, and creating a new one?

I'm glad that worked.
I don't know what went wrong with the permissions on the first one.
You didn't choose the "all permissions" option, did you?

That was your problem, then. "all permissions" means that only users with all of the ticked permissions will have permission to see it.
